I do love Chicago! I was teaching at CREATE last week and had two days to tour the city. The weather was absolutely perfect! 77 degrees and sunny.

We went on the 90 minute Chicago Architecture Foundation River Tour . If you visit Chicago, do not miss this tour. (Last year, we visited the Art Institute of Chicago  and loved it.)

The next day, I was on my own, and took the train to fabulous Oak Park to see the Frank Lloyd Wright house. Yes, I read "Loving Frank" and really enjoyed it.

The neighborhood of Oak Park is gorgeous, and had an audio tour available, but I didn't have time for it.

And a wonderful surprise for me, Ernest Hemingway grew up a few blocks from the Frank Lloyd Writght home.  Since I'd visited (and blogged about) Hemingway's home in Cuba this past January (and his home in Key West, Florida years ago) I was excited to continue my Hemingway home tours! (Yes, I read "Paris Wife" too, but didn't finish it.)

What a difference in architecture and interiors from Frank Lloyd Wright!

Lastly, here's a video I made from Millennium Park.  The band "Dead Can Dance" was rehearsing at the amphitheater.

You can see why I love Chicago!

  4. My 17 month old granddaughter lives in Chicago (with her parents - grin). Spent 3 lovely weeks there in July - during the heatwave. I have taken both architectural boat rides and have visited Frank Lloyd Wright's studio. Wonderful place.

  5. you took beautiful photos of my beautiful city -- and my beautiful building, The Wrigley Building -- I work for Wrigley. But I would not want to live in those condos on the river -- the river stinks and really isn't that clean at all :) The architectural boat tours are the best though. Also the Frank Lloyd Wright stuff in Oak Park is beautiful. Looks like you were lunching on Michigan Avenue -- near the Intercontinental Hotel??? Anyways, I follow your blog and just wanted to say I love your creations!

  6. I couldn't make it to Create this year - otherwise I'd have been in one of your classes again. I love Chicago too and I feel so lucky to live close enough to visit on occasion.

Yes to the Art Institute, yes to the river cruise, yes to Frank Llyod Wright and yes to Millenium Park! They are all on the YOU MUST DO THIS IN CHICAGO list!
