All you need is a gelli plate, some paints (I use BioColor) and fabric (I use 200 ct white muslin), some embroidery thread (from Laura) and a stash of gorgeous buttons. Oh, and a little time.

After reading your previous post on gel printing I found some video tutorials to see how it is done but haven't tried out the technique yet. It definitely is on my "to do" list! You're definitely right -- TIME is important!!

ReplyDeleteI did some monoprinting this summer and it was my surface technique of choice. I had done some before and found it less than exciting but this time was different. I used thickened dyes applied to a plexiglass plate. I've heard about the gelli plates and they sound interesting, especially the reusable part. Count me in for the drawing.

ReplyDeleteI have a frig full of dyes, so adding a real gelatin plate in there starts to squeeze out the yogurt and lettuce space. I need this Gelli thing ... to preserve my committment to healthy eating. Yeah, that's why I need it, saving space for the good stuff in the frig. :O)

I'm now busy, busy sewing but always find time for at least a little digital art. I have printed in many ways during my 56 years but this way really has me intrigued!

ReplyDeleteI too would love a gelli plate, I love using gelatin plates that I have made, but they are a bit of a pain to store and remember to make ahead of time. These sound wonderful.
ReplyDeleteGelatin plates give amazing results, but a bit of caution, and storage space in the fridge, make them a bit troublesome. A gelli plate might be just the kind of jiggle I would like in my life. Jelly belly, bad jiggle, gelli plate, GOOD jiggle.

I am currently doing mono prints using a press and plexiglass plates and I'd really like to try something that doesn't need a press to create the image. Additionally, I like the look of the gelli print as it seems to have a different quality to the print. Your blog has inspired several of my images as I ordered several of the stencils after seeing them here.

ReplyDeleteI teach this, but use the now "old-fashioned" gelatin plate (and have to supply them for all my students!!!). So you can probably imagine that the gelli plate option looks like a better alternative from my viewpoint!
