I love being a student! ~ Cas Holmes Workshop

As you may know, I'm a huge fan of the fiber artist, Cas Holmes. I was able to arrange a 4 day workshop for her, here in San Diego, over this past weekend.

I'm a cover girl in Massachusetts (and beyond!)

I'm a cover girl! Here's one of my sketchbook pages on the cover of the Rowe Center newsletter. I'll be teaching a weekend workshop there (in Massachusetts) in September, so they were kind enough to include my art and a little article on me. Husb and I went to Lake Poway, on Easter, for a morning picnic and sketching. Gorgeous day and the page was chock full of families picnicking, playing and having fun.

Yoga Poses in Public Places

Yoga Poses in Public Places ~ Greenlake, Seattle, April 2014

Crazy, but this is my first Yoga Pose in Public Places in 2014. I promise, I'll do more, soon!

Prayer Flags

 
I'm thrilled to be participating in the Prayer Flag Blog Hop. As you know, I love prayer flags and have made a number of them (see them here)

Here's what I created from the Prayer Flag Value pack, which included the ready made linen banners and the ebook

First I got out my trusty Gelli printing plates and rubber bands, to add a bit of color and texture to the linen flags
   
and grabbed some fabric that I had printed before using the same technique.

I cut out circles from the printed fabric and fused them to the printed flags.

Then, I cut out the images from my fabric yardage, with my designs (that you can purchase) and fused those to the flags.

I wanted to build up a layered background on the flags.


Lastly, I stamped some meaningful words and phrases on the flags.

I plan on finishing my prayer flags with a little bit of hand stitching when I have time.

Yesterday, I taught at California Center for Creative Renewal. It was a perfect spring day, surrounded by 20 wonderful students and the incredible beauty of the garden.

Sketchbook Skool

Are you in Sketchbook Skool? Week one featured Danny Gregory and next up is Koosje Koene. 


If you're in klass, you'll recognize this technique of Danny's that I tried. Yup, straight to ink, using a dip pen.(which I have used only a few times in my life!) I did this quickly, as Danny suggested and certainly stretched myself. That's what skool is all about, right?

Inspired by Lynn Krawczyk’s new book, Intentional Printing: Simple Techniques for Inspired Art Fabric, I used some of my mono-printed and stamped fabric to create Petite Stacked Collages, from her book.

I created some foam stamps to use on gelli printed fabric!



I cut up some felt, to create the backing for small cloth collages. I had some cute, very inexpensive notebooks, and created these little collages for the covers. (Also a Lynn Krawczyk’s idea, in the recent Quilting Arts magazine.)

I free motioned stitched, using the design on the cover of the notebooks for inspiration.
