You can see that I got help with this quilt and that I worked in my usual method. I create  a bunch of small quilts and then, when the deadline draws closer, I sew them all together to create a larger quilt.

  3. This is like a 'Journal Quilt' in that you have so many snippets of your work, and they blend beautifully together! Best looking patchwork I've seen in a long time! Very inspiring, too...

  5. Beautiful! I would love to see this "in the real" someday.

You can certainly include something in your statement about the strong influence of the natural world on your work. You capture the whimsy of flowers and small creatures so wonderfully.

  6. Jane-
Stitch Ritual is a modern version of a crazy quilt. In an artist's statement I think it should be about your ritual using hand sewing and tied all these wonderful little snippets from your work together into one cohesive piece. The fact you used a muted palette goes a long way towards unifying this piece. Nice job!

  8. Jane - It is delightful to look through this amazingly complex quilt. The representations of stitch in various forms, fibers, and threads is pure delight for me to take time to view bit by bit. This piece is so successfully arranged to make a wonderful large work of art.
    Thank you for sharing...

  9. Jane, I see the Love and Joy you have for your craft in every panel. From the fabric you chose, to the subject you stitched over the top, to the smallest of embellishments you've used. Your Story you share is so beautiful!

  12. Methinks that cats were wanting a bit of ME time!! I have an issue with dog hair in my house- i find it stitched into my bead pieces!!
I would know that this was your work from a mile away- it has your elegant intuitive style and charm. the brown eyed susan- daisy shapes really unify it as do the colors that you love to use. and the black thread painting! I love all of the texture that you added in when you put it together and I totally agree with the comment about about this being a modern day crazy quilt of sorts. this is really a beautiful piece and I would love to see it in person some day , maybe!!!! ( Does some of that rust look familiar???0 <3! got to get off the compute and get to stitching - you inspire me as always!!!!

  13. such an amazing work, jane...so many beautiful parts to the whole..

  14. The whole is greater the sum of its parts. How true, when viewed each of your smaller 'parts' is an individual masterpiece but together they come to life and become a uniform 'whole'.
Love your blog and have been recently been inspired by your use of colour.

  15. A garden of Eden! So beautiful.
Maybe the word "genesis" should make its way into your artist statement.

  16. Seems like these pieces show how you recognize and capture the simple moments and items in your life, honoring them in some Buddhisty way.
    Nice work.

  29. Jane,
What kind of embroidery thread do you use. When I use the floss, on my handwork, from Walmart, Michaels, etc, my work looks old, frayed and tattered, and not in a good way. Thank you for any help you can give me.
