Before I tell you details of the GIVE AWAY...

Here's a little tutorial on how I used Chris Cozen's Artistcellar Playful Pods Stencils on my sketchbook page:
from my sketchbook ~ pods and leaves
1. spray gesso through the stencil, onto a sketchbook page

2. paint watercolor over the page (use a large brush)

3. The stencil won't show up right away

4. When the page is dry, you'll see the stencil images

5. Draw and watercolor, like you normally would. (I also traced some of the stencil shapes with pencil, and filled them in with watercolor)

6. The page develops. You can see how that pattern comes out even more when you paint over it.

7. Nearly done.

8. Adding borders and text help complete the page

My online classes are open for registration

My online classes are open for registration! One for beginners, or people who haven't painted in watercolor before, and the other for those who know how to draw and have watercolor experience, or have taken classes from me in the past.

Sketching and Watercolor: Journal Style
with Jane LaFazio
ONLINE classroom opens June 16 and Lesson One will be released on June 20. Last lesson is released on July 25. Classroom will remain open for a few weeks after the class ends. $85.
Register here
and get more details........
Be inspired to record your life, a special trip, or your daily adventures in a loose, quick journal style format. Jane who is known for her friendly, encouraging teaching style, will teach drawing and watercolors using a straight-forward, intuitive approach. You'll draw what you see, capturing the details of everyday objects and the small details of life on watercolor pages. Everyone has their own drawing style, just like handwriting, and Jane will help you to see and then record what you see on paper.

The class is geared for beginners, but all levels are welcome. (Really, even if you haven't drawn since 3rd grade, Jane can teach you!) Jane will help you compose your journal pages, and show you a number of other creative ways to enhance your pages.

Each week you'll receive an email with a link to new lesson, with a different subject or technique. The lessons are available 24/7 and you'll receive a downloadable step-by-step pdf to work from each week. There are videos and examples from Jane's sketchbook to support the lessons. Just like in a real classroom, you'll be able to see fellow students sketchbook pages and will be able to comment and praise their work and they'll be able to see your pages too (as long as you post them!). And you'll get honest and gentle critiques on all your work from Jane.

Three generations recently took my online class together! The youngest, who is home schooled was enjoying it so much, her mom and grandmother signed up too! Here they are doing their 'homework' together.

ONLINE classroom opens June 16 and Lesson One will be released on June 21. Last lesson is released on July 26. Classroom will remain open for a few weeks after the class ends. $90.
Register here and get more details........
There's no substitute for learning to draw from real life objects, and that's what we'll do each week.  Jane will teach you her quick and intuitive method to drawing and watercolor. Then each lesson will be an assignment or suggestion of what to draw, and some new techniques and theme to enhance your illustrated journal entries.  Working in a 9x12" (suggested size) journal, you'll be drawing every week, often working on one page for a few days, designing the page as you draw. This is the class to take your art journaling to the next step.

(This class is geared for students who have had some experience in drawing. If you're new to drawing, take Jane's Sketching and Watercolor: Journal Style first.)

Each week you'll receive an email with a link to new lesson. The lessons are available 24/7 and you'll receive a downloadable step-by-step pdf to work from.

The Kindness Chronicles

the kindness chronicles

from Patti Digh
I haven't been keeping The Kindness Chronicles in my consciousness lately. The goal of this project, is to be conscious of kindness, in both the giving and receiving. And here it is, May, and I have nothing on my list of kindnesses. I've been making lots of lists this past month, but why haven't I made my kindness list? I could answer that I've been too busy. But that is a lousy, non-excuse. This also reminds me of my word for 2013 is LOVE and these two are sooooooooo connected, aren't they?
So, I promise will really try to be conscious of kindness this month of May. Wanna join me?

Santa Fe ~ Tesoro del Corazon art retreat 2013

Santa Fe group 2013
Students and teachers at our Tesoro del Corazon art retreat in Santa Fe, New Mexico
We had a wonderful time at our Tesoro del Corazon mixed media art retreat in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I had to leave early, so I didn't see the finished projects, but I thought you'd like to see some in progress:

The retreat included a 4 day workshop with a class from Laurie Mika, Helen Shafer Garcia, Lynn Leahy and myself. And we saw some of Santa Fe too! (We're planning another retreat for San Miguel de Allende, Mexico in October/November 2014. We're working on that now.)
