A little handmade book.

My Garden (accordion book) by Jane LaFazio (cover size 6 x 4 inches)

I forgot how fun it is to just randomly cut words and short phrases from a book, and then compile them into a sort of a poem.

My sweet kitties love my recycled circles pillow. (Okay, they really just love being on the sofa with me.) It reminded me to remind you that I have a instructional video download for sale showing you how to make Recycled Circles.

This video shows you some examples of my Recycled Circles.

Madeline Island School of the Arts in Wisconsin

from my sketchbook ~ by Jane LaFazio
I just returned from a lovely week at Madeline Island School of the Arts on the shores of Lake Superior in Wisconsin. It's quite beautiful and a perfect location for a real retreat from reality and an immersion in art.

with my friend Suzanne Myers Otto (who happens to be one of my students)

My husband went with me, so it was extra fun!

San Diego ~ one day workshop September 9

Saturday, September 9, 2017

The Value of Drawing ~ one day workshop
With Jane LaFazio
10AM-4PM  $125

in San Diego
Art on 30th
4434 30th Street
San Diego, CA 92116

Drawing with just a pencil and eraser is so simple and satisfying. It takes the fear out of drawing (I promise!) and you can do it anywhere with basic, inexpensive tools. In this world of mixed media, art can be a never-ending series of layers and color and more layers. Let’s go back to the basics with just a pencil and focus on drawing and shading to capture the contours and dimension of an object. But, let’s do it sketchbook style, meaning relatively quickly and as another tool for your art journal

Join me for a FUN one day workshop, where we will draw from real life objects, learn to see the darks and lights and really work on shading and dimension. I’ll also show you how to add color to your pencil sketches with watercolor. And, we’ll do it all in an accordion book you make yourself in class.

From my sketchbooki ~ My Quebec Journal

the cover
For my recent teaching gig in Quebec, with Arts and Cultural Travel, we used my new fave. The Senneilier Urban Sketchbook. I used it for my Ghost Ranch journal too, and I like that you can draw and watercolor on both sides of the accordion book.

Above, I attached a photo of Don and I to the cover.

I love adding maps to my journals. Did you know that Montreal's motto has been "Harmony through Diversity" for 200 years! Another reason I love Montreal!
