I had prepared my sketchbook page using the  botanical stencils I designed (and yes, you can buy them here) and spray gesso. I spray the gesso through the stencil, let it dry, then do a wash of watercolor over the whole page. That's what gives it the textured, tinted background.

Our San Diego Sketchcrawlers group has been going strong for 6 years now! I described how it works in this post on the Sketchbook Challenge blog.

And of course, I had to take photos of some of the gorgeousness at the market.

  1. I love your sketches of farmers markets; we don't have them where I live, so your travel sketches are a wonderful way to "visit" places I shall never see. I'm enjoying the journey!

  2. I am learning how to design the page in my sketchbook and your sketchbooks are a wonderful example. I was wondering where you got your little palette? It seems to hold a lot of paint and be very compact!
