Witch Creek Fire.

This is the definitive image in my mind of the fire in San Diego. The red sign 'condemns' the property. The wooden frame with pink note below is a sifting screen, for the occupants to use to sift through the ashes of what remains of their home. The screens, we read on the attached tag, were made by nearby high school students...the swim teams, the basketball teams, and the soccer teams built these and distributed them to the burned out homes. The hand written pink note, tells the 'home owners' not to give up hope and to persevere.

  1. Thanks for the photo and explanation. The screens are a wonderful, thoughtful gift, especially since they are from the high school students.

  2. Oh my... moved to tears... I'm certain that a piece of me would have burned right along with my home. I used to work in Rancho Bernardo and knew many co-workers that lived in RB, Poway, Rancho Penasquitos, Escondido, Scripps Ranch... *sigh* I'm so glad that you, yours and your home is safe.

    Hugs,
    Adriane

  5. Your posts have made this all so real to me, and I too am moved to tears. The comment from Lori, who is married to the firefighter, also brought home the other aspect of it: the bravery of the firefighters, some of whom also lost their homes.
I'm so glad you all are safe and that your home was spared.
