I made caprese the other day for a party, and just had to paint it. And of course, it made me think of Italy, and eating and the sketching and watercolor workshop I'm teaching Orvieto in 2012!
Oh Jane... if you love Caprese salads you must do Caprese Skewers for a party appetizer! I thread a half of a cherry tomato, a bit of basil, half of a bococcini, a bit of basil, half a tomato, basil, half bococcini, basil, and a last half of tomato. Drizzle with oil, vinegar and sprinkle with a little black pepper. They're so festive and absolutely delicious!

Yes, a summer staple! I have the basil in the garden now just have to wait on the good tomatoes! Italian is gettin' better, mia cara!
